Health & Safety is central to our delivery so continuous training underpins everything that we do. Our Crew Development Programme is designed to give all new recruits a solid grounding in live production and health and safety legislation by building up their skill levels in constructive stages.
Stage 1: Induction Training - delivered by our qualified events trainer as soon as an individual joins us.
Stage 2: Crew Handbook - issued to every employee on completion of induction training. Regularly reviewed together with all crew members, it is a comprehensive guide to working practices, standards and requirements in the various event production disciplines. It is also designed to support the Crew Development Programme.
Stage 3: SPA Safety Passport - Backed by the Production Services Association, this training is delivered to all members of staff. We are currently believed to be one of the few crew companies in the UK to ensure that all our staff gains the Passport thereby setting a new benchmark in health and safety standards.
Stage 4: Training & Assessment Programme - DES offers its crew a variety of training opportunities in technical disciplines to ensure their skills are developed and maintained - Continual Professional Development remains a focus. This is supported by our Senior Crew Chiefs through continual guidance and monitoring of new crew onsite. Our aim is to have all new crew proficient in the basic skills required onsite within a few shifts of starting with us.
Client Specific Training: We also provide client specific training to our crew members in order to meet the individual requirements of our customers. These training days can take the form of an initial / induction or an update / refresher course. They are organised and delivered at our expense and are held at our clients' premises in order to immerse every attendee in the appropriate business.
The industry's trade association, The Production Services Association (PSA), recently embarked on a search for an industry standard safety induction for crews; a course that would increase awareness of how safety is managed on site as well as the common hazards and how to avoid them. The SPA Safety Passport for Live Events was subsequently created.
The course content was developed in consultation with entertainment industry safety specialists and employers to create a real industry standard; consolidating existing courses and initiatives and thus increasing demand. Unlike most Safety Passport courses, both core and sector qualifications can be achieved in one day as the core content covers the vast majority of what is needed in this sector.
